Predicting the arrival of an earthquake is difficult. But frogs can apparently be an alarm for the coming of the earthquake. A general characteristic of the arrival of an earthquake is usually marked by a strange animal behavior. It is starting from the birds that fly into an unusual direction to the dog that became agitated during a few days before the earthquake.
Unfortunately most of these stories are not usually accompanied by scientific data. However, researchers find new indicators to determine the arrival of the earthquake, which considering the behavior of frogs. Frogs could be an indicator of environmental changes before an earthquake.
A team led by zoologist Rachel Grant British finds that the disruption occurred at a higher layer of the atmosphere before the earthquake correlates with the movement of a frog. Toads are very sensitive to know the arrival of the earthquake so easy for them to immediately run away and jump to safety before the earthquake came.
This study reveals the fact that the frog eggs released them five days before the earthquake hit L’Aquila, Italy, in April 2009. New frogs will be back in a few days after the shocks occur. This was considered unusual because a frog normally never leaves its eggs in a long time.
